Garbage, Yard Waste & Recycling
Residential curbside garbage and recycling collection is MANDATORY through a City of Clearlake ordinance passed in 2017 (Ord 198-2017). Rates for this service are determined by the size of the garbage can you have - recycling and green waste carts are provided at no charge - so the amount of garbage you generate determines how much you pay.
Self hauling is NOT a substitute for mandatory residential service.
**To apply for a Garbage Exemption, please print the form at the bottom of this page, fill it out and return it to us by email (djustus@clearlake.ca.us) or mail to 14050 Olympic Drive, Clearlake, CA 95422. Please allow up to 30 days time for verification and processing to take place. You will receive a letter by mail approving or denying your application. Applications are for the annual calendar year and you must reapply every year to verify that the status hasn't changed.
You can take recyclables to a drop-off center at no charge. You will get a free blue recycling bin and green waste cart with your curbside garbage collection service. It's free to recycle, so why pay more for your garbage than you need to? On average, 75% to 90% of the waste stream can be recycled.
Visit the Lake County Recycling website to learn more about recycling in Clearlake. For more information on green waste and larger disposal loads (construction debris, property clean up etc.) visit the South Lake Refuse site.
In an effort to tackle the top problem items that end up in the recycling, C&S Waste Solutions has provided us with a video regarding recycling. As we receive more videos we will make them available.
